Milestones for Lily / Harry's First Hike

Harry has mostly healed from his injury now. There is just a little scab to the right of his eye, at the point of impact. His little sister will no doubt be getting her own war wounds soon, as she figured out how to walk and now seems to think that "full speed ahead" is a reasonable pace for her. Unfortunately, her limbs have not caught up with her brain, and there is a lot of falling down. She was walking around in the gym when I dropped her off at daycare the other day; a small group of preschoolers gathered around her, wanting to know why she walks like a penguin.
The other day, I was holding a banana and she pointed at it and said "NaNa!" Of course immediately I assumed she was trying to say "banana" and even got her to repeat it once for Chris. Alas, it turns out that she has just learned to say "NA NA NA!" when she sees you have something she wants.

The weather is finally getting warm. We spent the weekend hiking at Capitol Reef National Park. Harry even got to do a little hiking himself, much to the relief of Chris and his sore back. He has a few issues with staying focused - he would rather pick up and examine every rock in the park than actually go anywhere - and the inevitable mixture of snot and red dirt that accumulated on his face was unattractive, but overall we would say Harry's first hike was a success.

Regards,

carolyn
